The Pastor's Page

Our church is lead by the Rev. Marcia Elders. Each week we get to enjoy her words of wisdom in "A minute with M.E."

Have you noticed those wonderful little ones coming to the front of the church on Sunday morning? They run or toddle down the sanctuary aisles to see whas’s happening. They come happily or hesitantly. But they come. They are what Christmas is all about; children gathered at the feet of the manger. Eyes eager, hearts pounding, faces beaming with the light of candles and stars reflected there. I long for their innocent reflections on Christmas time. Their simple wonder at what is just around the corner. Their hope is for the next gathering, the next gift, the next surprise. I have determined this year to make my Christmas and my family’s Christmas a simple thing, found in the joy of being together, deepened by our gratitude for food on our table and a roof over our heads.
And I invite you into that simplicity as we worship together this Christmas season. The Sundays of Advent lead us toward Christmas Day. But we have a couple of special events that I would like you to participate in. The first is a special Christmas gathering on December 21 at 5:30 p.m. There will be a simple program led by our children and the members of our Children’s Ministry Team. Following the program, a light supper of sandwiches will be served, to which you are invited to bring a salad to pass and there’s ice cream for dessert! There’s always enough food, so bring a friend or two.
The second is the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. This has always been a favorite at South Wyoming. It is a very special way to celebrate the coming of the Christ Child into our lives. The service will begin at 7:00 p.m. on December 24 and will prove to stir your hearts to joy and praise.
And, by the way, when these celebrations are complete, I will be going on vacation with my family for two weeks. If you have a pastoral emergency while I am gone, please call me on my cell phone at 616-292-6712 and I will see to it that one of my Methodist colleagues provides you with the spiritual care that is needed. As always friends, may you find your homes this Christmas to be a place of peace and your hearts an instrument of service!
