We are a giving church. South End Community Outreach Ministries (SECOM) - An independent charitable organization serving Kent County by providing emergency assistance and opportunities for individual growth and development, and support of the family.

SECOM's Mission - SECOM will actively partner with others working to reduce poverty and increase the ability of individuals to independently meet the basic needs of life. SECOM will strengthen and expand its capacity as a servant leader of community change.

Haiti Hot Lunch - Hunger is a much too familiar phenomenon in Haiti. For a number of years, the lunch program has provided daily meals in 93 schools. It reaches 16,877 youngsters. For many, this is the only meal they will receive. A meal of beans and rice can be prepared for about 25 cents per student. As the project has grown, so has the need for contributions. The Haiti Task Force of Michigan, in collaboration with the Methodist Church of Haiti, began this project in order to improve student health and educational performance.

Shoebox Ministries - The shoebox size health kits are used for disaster relief around the country. Now more than ever, we have requests for basic care items. Each shoebox contains a hand towel, washcloth, comb, fingernail clippers, bar of soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, and bandages.

Nothing But Nets - A grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. While the UN Foundation has been working with the UN to fight malaria for years, it was a column that Rick Reilly wrote about malaria in Sports Illustrated, challenging each of his readers to donate at least $10 for the purchase of an anti-malaria bed nets -- and the incredible response from thousands of Americans across the country -- that led to the creation of the Nothing But Nets campaign.

The UN Foundation has now partnered with groups as diverse as National Basketball Associations NBA Cares, The People of the United Methodist Church and Sports Illustrated to bring Nothing But Nets to the American public. These Founding Partners are joined by corporate, multi-media and financial partners to make a significant impact by raising awareness and funds to purchase and distribute bed nets and save lives.
