Relay For Life
Pictures with Santa
December 11, 2007 we held a Pictures with Santa event. For $1.00 you could have your picture taken with Santa. The proceeds
paid for a Christmas party for the children at SOS crisis center.
Phi Theta Kappa Bake Sale
On November 5th. & 6th. Phi Theta Kappa held a bake sale to benefit the Huron Valley Humane Society. We raised $316.00
dollars. Rice Krispy bars sell the best at these bake sales.
Better Worlds Book Drive
In December of 2006, Phi Theta Kappa organized a book drive to help send used text books to Africa and National Center for Family Literacy. We sent 44 boxes weighing
45lbs. each.
Phi Theta Kappa Bake Sale
On April 17th. & April 18th., 2006 Phi Theta Kappa held a bake sale to benefit the Huron Valley Humane Society.
We raised $346.25 for the Society. We had excellent participation from the members who brought in baked goodies and helped
sell them. Many people who bought baked goods, also contributed extra money because this was a cause near and dear to them.
Paws with a Cause
This event featured a lollipop tree loaded with prizes. For 50 cents you could purchase a lollipop and win prizes
such as dinners, pet supplies and more. We also had Paws with a Cause dogs and puppies available for people to take
their pictures with. This event was held to raise money for a student at WCC who needs a service dog. We raised
$2000.00 dollars, which Paws with a Cause will match.
Hurricane Katrina Fundraiser
Beta Gamma Alpha members collected money for Hurricane Katrina victims which was then donated to the American
Red Cross.
Project Graduation
The campus participated in the international Phi Theta Kappa project to collect food and personal items for
displaced families. Boxes were distributed throughout campus to collect canned goods for Food Gatherers and
toiletries for Alpha House. Approximately 500 pounds of food was donated to Food Gatherers.
Relay for Life
The President had a leadership role on the 2005 local planning committee. Members and officers walked in the
Relay to support the American Cancer Society. Approximately $2,000 was raised. Vice President of Service joins the
2005 Relay for Life Planning Committee to represent Beta Gamma Alpha and Washtenaw Community College.
USA Today Readership Program
Beta Gamma Alpha joined USA Today in a program to encourage young people to read the newspaper. USA Today
offered a generous discount to Beta Gamma Alpha. With money from fundraising efforts, Beta Gamma Alpha
supplemented the discount to provide USA Today papers for free. The Chapter was also able to provide faculty
member, Donna Wasserman, with free papers for the students in her class, "Campaign and Elections".
Welcome Day
In conjunction with Student Activities, Beta Gamma Alpha members welcomed students to the fall term and
encouraged them to join Phi Theta Kappa.
Mock Chapter
Officers attended a state-wide conference to learn ways to improve their chapter and share ideas with other officers.
Satellite Seminars
Beta Gamma Alpha participated in four satellite seminars with hundreds of other Phi Theta Kappa chapters which
covered the 04-06 honors topic, "Popular Culture".
Mini Honors
Officers attended the Michigan Region Honors Conference to learn about how popular culture shapes our lives and how
to implement the honors topic on their campuses.
Scholarship Meetings
Beta Gamma Alpha's officer team helped members apply for thousands of dollars in Phi Theta Kappa scholarships. This
included doing research online, helping with resume writing, and proof-reading essays.
American Red Cross Blood Drive
Beta Gamma Alpha members recruited students to donate blood. This event was held twice this year, March and October.
Great American Smokeout
Officers and members passed out literature and "stop smoking" kits they had assembled to encourage people to stop
smoking and join people across the nation for one day of not smoking.
Ypsilanti Symphony Orchestra
The Beta Gamma Alpha members helped usher at this event in February and in April.
Detroit Project
Beta Gamma Alpha works with volunteers from University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University to improve neighborhoods
in the Detroit area.
Living Legends Concert
Members ran a coat check and a concessions stand during the Ashford and Simpson concert.
